AVGSL's main goal is to insure that the players are in a fun, positive environment while learning and expanding their softball skills. AVGSL promotes a sense of belonging for everyone. We emphasize teamwork and the sense of individual success that contribute to team sports. No player will sit out more than 2 innings during a game, thereby providing a player to make contributions to their team and participate in a large part of all activities.

The Almaden Lightning is comprised of the very best players from the Almaden Valley Girls Softball League. The players and coaches are committed to excellence in softball and sportsmanship.

The lightning 10U B team was formed in early May and will play approximately 7 tournaments this summer starting Memorial Day Weekend. Practices will be held Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s 6:00pm to 8:00 starting the third week of May. The summer tournament season will run through July 12th. The tournament schedule is listed below. The cost of the tournament season is approximately $250 for the tournaments and $150 for uniforms. The 2009 Almaden Lightning 10U "B" team had a great summer playing all over Northern California and bonding as a team during several overnight trips. The Highlight of our summer was our 3rd place finish during our overnight trip to the South Lake Tahoe ASA Girls' Tournament. Also, the team qualified for the 2009 ASA Western Nationals by virtue of our finish in the ASA NorCal Regional Championships! Though we were unable to attend the Western Nationals in Salem, Oregon due to many players being unavailable to travel, simply qualifying was quite an honor.

The 10U Lightning "B" team had just 5 girls in their 2nd season of 10U softball, and only 4 of those had previous 10U summer experience. While we will miss our team leaders and wish them well as they move to 12U competition, this bodes well for our 2010 10U summer team. Another 7 girls return for a 2nd chance at 10U summer softball and will be one year older, wiser, and more experienced than many of the other teams that we saw this summer and will see again next summer. We intend to qualify again for Western Nationals and this time to go and to represent Almaden with class and pride.
