AVGSL's main goal is to insure that the players are in a fun, positive environment while learning and expanding their softball skills. AVGSL promotes a sense of belonging for everyone. We emphasize teamwork and the sense of individual success that contribute to team sports. No player will sit out more than 2 innings during a game, thereby providing a player to make contributions to their team and participate in a large part of all activities.

"The 2009 Almaden Lightning 8U "B" team had a great summer playing throughout Northern California and bonding as a team during their summer kickoff tourney in Livermore. Great times were had and new friends were made especially during this overnight trip to Livermore on Memorial Day weekend!! The Highlights of our summer were our 3rd place finishes at the Branham Hills Zebra Classic and at the Bagby Classic Girls' 8U Tournaments. Also, the team participated in Jamboree style tourneys in South San Jose, Almaden, & Livermore. The girls were led by Head Coach Dan McHale and Assistant Coaches Ron LaValley and Adam Smith.

The 8U Lightning "B" team had 9 girls in their 2nd season of 8U softball, but only one of those had previous summer experience. While we will miss our team leaders and wish them well as they move to 10U competition, this bodes well for our 2010 8U summer team. Another 5 girls return for a 2nd chance at 8U summer softball and will be one year older, wiser, and more experienced than many of the other teams that we saw this summer and will see again next summer. We intend to place even higher on the 8U Summer Tournament circuit as we represent Almaden with class and pride!!"
