2012 AVGSL Recreational Softball Registration
Opens November 1st, 2011!

AVGSL utilizes an online registration system. This will make the registration process easier for all. We are using the same provider that AVYSL has been using for years, so those familiar with soccer registration should feel right at home. AVGSL is a 100% volunteer run league. This year we've eliminated the Volunteer buy-out fee and ask that every family volunteer to support the league. We really need help in the Snack Shack. Information on volunteer opportunities will be sent out soon. You can also encourage friends and family members who don't have children playing in the league to volunteer.

Registration will remain open until January 22rd, 2012 (pending availability, late registration may continue beyond that with a $25 late fee) For more detailed information regarding the online registration system, age requirements, etc, click the AVGSL Registration page.

Coaches: We need you!

Without Coaches we would not have a softball league. Without the opportunity to meet and talk to potential coaches at registration, we won’t be able to recruit as we have in the past. So please consider volunteering to coach. AVGSL provides training, support and resources to help all coaches be successful and to create a positive environment for their players. Free clinics for Almaden players & coaches

To help develop the skills of all players and coaches in Almaden, the league has arranged clinics to sharpen your softball techniques before the season begins. The dates for these sessions have been set, however the content for the sessions is still being developed. Please check back soon to see what we have arranged for the players and coaches.

• Jan 21st: CANCELLED! FREE! League Sponsored All Players Clinic: Presented by the Santa Clara University Broncos Softball Team! Location Bret Harte.
  Due to heavy rains, we have cancelled this clinic. It will be rescheduled for a later date.
  Two Sessions open to ALL players:   10am to Noon    1pm to 3pm
  Lisa Mize, head coach of the Santa Clara University Broncos softball team, returns with her staff and players for an all-skills clinic available to ALL players in ALL age groups. This clinic has been a favorite the past few years with many players, coaches, and parents. Bring your glove and cleats (tennis shoes ~OK) also bring your helmet and bat if you would like.  Players can come to either session or both sessions.
  
• Feb 4th: Beginners Throwing and Catching Clinic
  Run by Larry Blair, AVGSL Player Development Rep and Staff.

• Feb 11th: Saturday Team Practices will be a  League Sponsored All Players/Coaches Hitting Clinic run by Strike Zone Softball Organization.

  6U – 9:00 to 10:15;   8U – 10:30 to 12:00;   10U – 12:30  to 2:15;  12U/16U – 2:30 to 4:15
  
• Feb 12th: FREE! League Sponsored Coaches Pitching Clinic run by Cutting Edge Softball.
  Free for all AVGSL coaches.  Learn how to pitch windmill-style, and how to coach the pitchers on your team from the experts at Cutting Edge Softball.  This clinic is free to all AVGSL coaches, and will help your pitchers tremendously.
  Location: Bret Harte Field 6. 9:00 am (Rain-Out: Clinic held at Cutting Edge Softball facility)
  
• Feb 18th: FREE! Windmill Pitching Clinic For ALLL AVGSL Players. 
  This clinic will introduce the windmill-style fastpitch technique to all players.
  Run by Larry Blair, AVGSL Player Development Rep and Staff
  8U players . . . . . . . . . .  9:00AM - 10:30AM - Location: Graystone field 1
  10U and 12U players . . . . .11:00AM - 12:30PM - Location: Bret Harte field 1
  

• March 4th/11th/18th- Optional Pitching Group Lessons Offered by Cutting Edge Softball.
  3 Group lessions held at Bret Harte 6. Funded by parents - Paid directly to Cutting Edge Softball.
  Price is $100 per player. The times for the lessons are yet TBD.

  Meet Your Board of Directors

The Board of Directors for the 2012 AVGSL softball season (and beyond) has taken office. Plenty of new and energetic parents have joined the "more seasoned" board members to serve our league and our community.
